As an organization we are:
Building: Building strong minds and bodies in student-athletes. Building bridges with other non-profits and community influencers to partner in saving our sons and daughters.
Reaching, Raising & Restoring: Reaching out into the communities, raising up future leaders and restoring the breach created by a modern society that deprioritized mentoring, developing, and educating young men.
Uplifting: Uplifting and supporting the men and women committed to training and developing young student athletes; and the students lives they impact.
Touching & Teaching: Touching hearts, souls, homes and families through mentorship, development, and education of young people. Teaching and training young men to be present and engaged: achievers, providers, and protectors.
Elevating & Equipping: Elevating perceptions and mindsets of young men and equipping them to take charge of their future. Educating young men to understand their importance to societal sustenance and success.
Student-Athletes: Instilling the importance of academic and athletic excellence.

We seek out student-athletes who are BRUTES:
Bold. They are leaders who stand out amongst their peers.

Exemplary. They hold themselves to a higher standard. They do not follow crowds; they blaze trails and positively influence others. They are young men of character and integrity.
Strong. They push themselves in workouts and practices. They play hard from start to finish of every game. They push their peers to excellence. They have remarkable stats and game performances. They exhibit sportsmanship.

 

BRUTES In Suits was founded on November 9, 2022 by executive director, Neisha Powells. The vision for BRUTES was birthed in her while supporting her three sons in their quests to become D1 collegiate prospects. Neisha was astonished at the amount of money, time and relationship[s] with the right coaches and trainers was required, to get one child ready for the next level of sport and academia!  This started the wheels of her mind reeling: If she, as a mother of three boys, with a really great job, was struggling to keep her sons on track with all that was required to support their dreams and goals for their futures; how much more difficult was it for student-athletes who may not have parental support? For student-athletes whose families may not be able to provide the financial support? For student-athletes whose families may not have the mind or knowledge of what it takes to get an amazing student-athlete the recognition required to win a D1--or any scholarship?  

Neisha went to work: writing the vision, researching the steps to acquire non-profit status, talking within her supportive network and village.  Today, she is proud to present BRUTES In Suits to the greater Houston community.  She plans to work diligently and tirelessly in the private, state and federal sectors to get this vision fully funded and operational to help young men across the city, nation and world to reach their dreams of becoming athletic scholarship recipients.  The goal is to see more young men applying to and graduating from collegiate programs so that they will become productive citizens: providers for and protectors of their families and future generations of student-athletes.
